A Bit of Stitch is owned by Evy Hawkins...or perhaps we should say “A Bit of Stitch OWNS Evy Hawkins”...that’s more like it!

All of the embroidery designs created by Evy began with her own sketches. Secrets of Embroidery carries her complete line of embroidery designs available as instant downloads on the net. To view and purchase designs, please click the shopping link on the home page. A Bit of Stitch designs are also sold through many fine retailers. To find a location near you, please check the "Shops to Visit" page.

Evy travels with her trunk show, teaching project classes mainly in the southeast and also attends various embroidery and sewing conferences. She writes project articles for Creative Machine Embroidery, FlairUK and Designs in Machine Embroidery/Embroidery Journal. Her designs have also been featured in Sewing Savvy and Sew News.

Evy lives in South Carolina with her husband and three children. She has been sewing since she was a child. During the course of her career she has been a couturiere, specializing in wedding and evening garments; a women’s wear designer; a freelance embroidery designer; the owner of a little fabric shop; children’s wear designer/manufacturer and a graphic artist. Today she stays very busy and quite happy designing and digitizing her own line of embroidery designs. Evy’s goal is to bring you truly unique embroidery designs and lots of fun projects to use them with!

(Yes, there are thread snips and fabric scraps littering the house, yard and road leading to Evy’s house...the neighbors are – thankfully -- patient and so is her family!)

A long time ago, Evy had a dear old Irish aunt who taught her the love of sewing by making her exquisite things for her dolls and showing her how she did it. She learned that “shark tooth” stitches were not acceptable...only tiny little even backstitches would do. Sometimes when enthusiasm got in the way of neatness Evy’s auntie would have to remind her “little stitches, Evy dear, just take a little bit of stitch!” The name is in honor of this sweet talented lady, and a reminder of how kind teachers can inspire us to do good things.
