Create a work of art and use it as a purse! This tutorial shows you how to machine needle felt scrumptious silk fabrics and trimmings into luscious cloth. Step-by-step directions show you how to make the purse and create a beaded handle. Also included are the flower design files and instructions illustrating how to use silk velvet to make a 3D flower using one of A Bit of Stitch’s made-in-the-hoop flower designs.
The directions in this tutorial are accompanied by color photographs and illustrations, making this project very easy to do! Perfect for gifts!
Materials suggested are silk velvet, silk organza, silk dupioni, silk taffeta, silk chiffon, ribbon yarn, curly wool roving, decorative yarn and silk ribbon. (Visit the “Favorite Places” page for resource suggestions.)
The Christmas purse is also embellished with silk velvet holly leaves from the Winter Blooms collection. (The holly leaf design is not included in this set.) Other 3D flower designs that would work great for this purse can be found in the Summer Blooms and Spring Blooms design sets.
Note - This tutorial was written especially for use with Baby Lock’s needle felting machine, the Embellisher. Other needle felting machines may be used as long as they have a throat plate that has an individual hole for each needle. Machines that have a single large hole for the felting needles are not recommended. This tutorial can be accomplished using hand felting needles but the results may not be quite the same.
