I love learning something new, don’t you? The girls behind Inspiring Stitches published the cutest little quilt block of the month calendar for 2018 and I decided it was way past time I learned to cut and piece a REAL quilt block. (As in, not pieced on my embroidery machine, ha!) It was fun and, yep, I sure learned a thing or two. I now have a brand new appreciation for my quilting friends – my, what talent it takes to make those perfect cuts and quarter inch seams, not to mention the patience that requires! My hat is off to all you who quilt! As for me, I think I’m probably going to stick with my in-the-hoop piecing.
Shown below is the Inspiring Stitches January quilt block that I made. As you can see, I couldn’t resist quilting it with my sweet Sassy Sashiko machine, AND I couldn’t resist adding that smiling face since my block ended up looking like a Mister Sunshine to me! Feel free to download this free embroidery design and use it to add a fun little smile to a project of your own! It is a bean stitch design and will fit in most 4x4 hoops easily, with room to spare. (If you do not own an embroidery machine yet, you can use the included PDF design template to trace and hand embroider the face instead.)
